Journey into Korean I 한글여행 소

Discovering Language, Culture, and Human Connection

While serving as a pastor in Ohio, United States, I had an opportunity to teach the Korean language.

As I worked with students, I came to realize an important distinction: knowing a language and knowing how to teach it effectively are two very different things.

Recognizing the need for more systematic and professional training, I returned to university to study Korean language education. Upon completing my studies, I earned a bachelor's degree in Korean Language Education and obtained a Certificate of Korean Language Teacher (Level 2).

Through this academic training and my teaching experiences, I gained a deeper understanding that language education is not simply about transferring knowledge. It is about helping people from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds communicate, understand one another, and build meaningful relationships.

Drawing upon my studies and teaching experiences, I hope to share the joy of learning Korean and discovering Korean culture through this Journey into Korean.

Hangul, the Korean writing system, is widely recognized for its originality and systematic design. Yet the joy of learning Hangul goes far beyond learning how to read and write its letters.

Through Hangul, we begin to learn the Korean language. Through the Korean language, we gain a deeper understanding of Korea's history, culture, traditions, and everyday life.

This section of the blog is designed for students around the world who wish to learn Korean, as well as those interested in Korean language education.

We will begin with the consonants and vowels of Hangul and gradually explore practical Korean expressions, grammar, sentence structures, listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

I also plan to provide study materials and practice exercises for learners preparing for the Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK), along with useful information about Korean culture and daily life.

To make Korean more accessible and enjoyable for international learners, I will introduce bilingual learning materials using both Korean and English.

Language is a bridge that connects people.

My hope is that learning Hangul will become more than studying a foreign language. May it become a meaningful journey of understanding a new culture, making new friends, and discovering a wider world.

I warmly invite you to join this exciting journey of discovering Korea through Hangul and connecting with the world through the Korean language.
