In our younger years, we tend to move forward with our eyes fixed on our destinations. We study, build careers, raise families, and fulfill the responsibilities entrusted to us. Sometimes, we become so busy moving forward that we hardly have time to ask where we are actually going. Then, one day, we arrive at a new crossroads in life called retirement. Many people think of retirement as the final chapter of life. We step away from our jobs, lay down familiar responsibilities, and hear people tell us that it is finally time to rest. But I would like to look at retirement from a different perspective. Retirement is not the end of life's journey. It is a time to pause and prepare for a new road ahead. 1.   은퇴는 끝이 아니라 새로운 출발이다 — Re + Tire 본문: 시편 92:12–15 우리는 인생을 하나의 긴 여행에 비유하곤 합니다. 젊은 시절에는 목적지를 향해 앞만 보고 달립니다. 공부하고, 직장을 얻고, 가정을 이루고, 자녀를 양육하며 주어진 책임을 감당합니다. 때로는 숨 가쁘게 달려오느라 내가 어디를 향해 가고 있는지 돌아볼 여유조차 없습니다. 그러다가 어느 날 은퇴라는 인생의 새로운 길목에 서게 됩니다. 사람들은 은퇴를 흔히 인생의 끝자락이라고 생각합니다. 직장에서 물러나고, 익숙한 역할을 내려놓으며, 이제는 쉬어야 할 때라고 말합니다. 그런데 저는 은퇴를 조금 다르게 생각해 보고 싶습니다. 은퇴는 인생이라는 여행을 끝내는 것이 아니라, 새로운 길을 떠나기 위해 잠시 멈추는 시간입니다. 1. 은퇴는 멈추는 것이 아니라 새롭게 준비하는 것이다 영어로 은퇴는 Retirement 입니다. 저는 이 단어를 생각할 때마다 재미있는 상상을 해봅니다. Retire 를 Re + Tire 로 나누어 보는 것입니다. 물론 이것은 단어의 실제 어원이 아닙니다. 그러나 인생의 새로운 출발을 설명하는 데 참 좋은 비유라고 생각합니다. 자동차를 오래 운전하다 보면 타이어가 닳습니다. 수많은 길을 달려온 타이어에는 그동안의 여정이 고스란히 남아 있습니다. 그러나 타이어가 닳았다고 자동차의 여행이 끝나는 것은 아닙니다. 새로운 길을 안전하게 달리기 위해서는 잠시 멈추어 타이어를 교체해야 합니다. 저는 은퇴도 이와 같다고 생각합니다. 지금까지 살아온 삶이 끝난 것이 아닙니다. 다만 새로운 길에 맞는 준비가 필요한 것입니다. 젊은 시절에는 성취와 책임이 삶의 중요한 부분을 차지했다면, 은퇴 이후에는 삶의 의미와 관계, 섬김과 나눔이 더욱 중요해질 수 있습니다. 이제는 얼마나 빨리 달려왔는가보다 앞으로 어떤 방향으로 걸어갈 것인가 를 생각해야 할 때입니다. 은퇴는 삶의 속도를 늦추는 시간이기도 하지만, 삶의 방향을 새롭게 정하는 시간이기도 합니다. 2. 직장에서 은퇴할 수...

As I worked with students, I came to realize an important distinction: knowing a language and knowing how to teach it effectively are two very different things. Recognizing the need for more systematic and professional training, I returned to university to study Korean language education. Upon completing my studies, I earned a bachelor's degree in Korean Language Education and obtained a Certificate of Korean Language Teacher (Level 2). Through this academic training and my teaching experiences, I gained a deeper understanding that language education is not simply about transferring knowledge. Sometimes we travel along paths filled with joy and gratitude. At other times, we pass through seasons of difficulty, uncertainty, and suffering. It is a lifelong journey of knowing God, following Jesus Christ, and learning to live according to His Word. Life is a Journey . The road does more than take us to new places. It also leads us toward new perspectives and values. Along the way, we encounter God, the world, other people, and even ourselves in new and meaningful ways. Every one of us is traveling along a road of life. Some set out in search of new dreams. Others carry the burdens of everyday life as they continue their journey. Still others look back on the roads they have traveled and wonder what lies ahead. Looking back, I realize that my own life has been one long journey. In my younger years, I studied engineering and began my professional career. Later, responding to God's calling, I pursued theological education and entered the ministry. My journey, which began in Korea, eventually led me to the United States, the Philippines, and other parts of the world. Along the way, I met countless people.   여행은 길이다. 길은 우리를 새로운 곳으로 데려갈 뿐만 아니라 새로운 가치관으로 이끈다. 그리고 그 길에서 우리는 하나님과 세상, 사람들, 그리고 자신을 새롭게 만난다. 우리는 누구나 길 위에 서 있다. 어떤 사람은 새로운 꿈을 찾아 길을 떠나고, 어떤 사람은 삶의 무게를 안고 길을 걷는다. 또 어떤 사람은 지나온 길을 돌아보며 앞으로 걸어갈 길을 생각한다. 돌아보면 나의 삶도 하나의 긴 여행이었다. 젊은 시절에는 공학을 공부하고 직장 생활을 했다. 이후 하나님의 부르심을 따라 신학을 공부하고 목회와 선교의 길을 걸었다. 한국에서 시작된 삶의 여정은 미국과 필리핀을 비롯한 여러 나라로 이어졌다. 그 길에서 수많은 사람을 만났다. 기쁨도 있었고 어려움도 있었다. 계획한 대로 일이 이루어질 때도 있었지만, 전혀 예상하지 못한 길로 인도 받을 때도 있었다. 그렇게 세월이 흘러 목회 일선에서 은퇴하게 되었다. 은퇴(Retire)라는 말을 나는 조금 다르게 생각해 본다. Retire를 두 부분으로 나누어 Re + Tire라고 생각해 보는 것이다. 물론 실제 영어의 어원과는 관계없는 나만의 해석이다. Re는 '다시', Tire는 자동차의 '타이어'를 떠올리게 한다. 자동차가 오랜 길을 달리면 타이어가 닳는다. 그러나 타이어가 낡았다고 자동차의 여행이 끝나는 것은 아니다. 새로운 타이어로 교체하면 다시 길을 달릴 수 있다. 나는 은퇴도 이와 같다고 생각한다. 은퇴는 인생이라는 자동차를 폐차하는 것이 아니라, 새로운 타이어를 장착하고 또 다른 길을 떠나는 것이다. 지금까지 달려온 길이 목회와 선교, 교육의 길이었다면 앞으로는 조금 다른 길을 달려보려 한다. 그동안 목회와 선교, 교육을 통해 사람들을 만났다면, 앞으로는 여행을 통해 더 넓은 세상을 만나고 싶다. 자연을 바라보고, 다른 문화를 배우고, 그곳에서 살아가는 사람들의 이야기에 귀를 기울이고 싶다. 무엇보다 여행 중에 만나는 모든 경험을 하나님의 말씀에 비추어 묵상하고 싶다. 성경은 이...

 미국 오하이오주에서 목회사역을 하던 중 한글을 가르칠 기회가 있었습니다. 학생들을 가르치면서 한국어를 안다는 것과 한국어를 잘 가르친다는 것은 다르다는 사실을 깨달았습니다.  보다 체계적이고 전문적인 교육의 필요성을 느껴 대학에 학사 편입하여 한국어 교육을 전공하고 학사 학위를 취득하였습니다.  그 과정에서 언어교육은 단순히 지식을 전달하는 일이 아니라, 서로 다른 언어와 문화를 가진 사람들이 소통하고 이해하도록 돕는 일이라는 사실을 더욱 깊이 배우게 되었습니다.  이러한 배움과 교육 경험을 바탕으로 '한글여행'을 통해 한국어를 배우는 즐거움과 한국 문화를 이해하는 기쁨을 함께 나누고자 합니다.  한글은 세계적으로 독창적이고 과학적인 문자로 알려져 있습니다. 그러나 한글을 배우는 즐거움은 글자를 읽고 쓰는 데서 끝나지 않습니다.  한글을 통해 한국어를 배우고, 한국어를 통해 한국의 역사와 문화, 그리고 한국인의 삶을 더욱 깊이 이해할 수 있습니다.  이 블로그의 한글여행은 한국어를 배우고자 하는 세계 여러 나라의 학생들과 한국어 교육에 관심있는 분들을 위한 공간입니다.  한글의 자음과 모음부터 시작하여 일상생활에서 사용하는 한국어 표현, 문법과 문장 구조, 듣기와 말하기, 읽기와 쓰기까지 단계적으로 함께 배우고자 합니다.  또한 한국어 능력시험 (TOPIK)을 준비하는 학습자들을 위한 학습 자료와 연습 문제, 한국의 문화와 생활에 관한 유익한 정보도 나누려 합니다.  특별히 외국인 학습자들이 한국어를 더욱 쉽고 재미있게 배울 수 있도록 한국어와 영어를 함께 사용하는 학습 자료도 소개할 계획입니다.  언어는 사람과 사람을 연결하는 다리입니다.  한글을 배우는 과정이 단순한 외국어 공부를 넘어 새로운 문화를 이해하고, 새로운 친구를 만나며, 더 넓은 세상으로 나아가는 소중한 여행이 되기를 바랍니다.  한글을 통해 한국을 만나고, 한국어를 통해 세상과...
